There were many roles that the Father assigned to Jesus when he came to Earth; as the Speaker of God, as the messenger of the New Covenant, as the Builder of God’s Church or kingdom, as the Messiah or Anointed king, as the Son of God or Man, as the Salvation or Savior of the world, as the Purifier or Perfecter of our Faith, and as the Judge of the world.
1.) AS THE SPEAKER OF GOD
[Deuteronomy 18:18-19] I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. I will put My words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. And I will hold accountable anyone who does not listen to My words that the prophet speaks in My name.
[Isaiah 51:16] I have put My words in your mouth, and covered you with the shadow of My hand, to establish the heavens, to found the earth, and to say to Zion, ‘You are My people
[John 14:10] Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me.
2.) AS THE MESSENGER OF THE NEW COVENANT
[Malachi 3:1] “Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger of the covenant, whom you look for so eagerly, is surely coming,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
[Luke 22:20] In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
3.) AS THE BUILDER OF GOD’S KINGDOM
[1 Chronicles 17:12-14] He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.
[2 Samuel 7:13-14] He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son.
[Psalm 78:69] “He built His holy place upon the height and He prepared it in the earth for eternity.
[Matthew 16:18-19] “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
4. AS THE MESSIAH OR ANOINTED KING
[1 Samuel 2:10] “Those who contend with the LORD will be shattered; Against them He will thunder in the heavens, The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; And He will give strength to His king, And will exalt the horn of His anointed.”
[Psalm 132:17] “There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed.
[Micah 5:2] As for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, seemingly insignificant among the clans of Judah – from you a King will emerge who will rule over Israel on my behalf, one whose origins are in the distant past
[Psalm 2:6] “But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
[Psalm 72:11] And let all kings bow down before him, All nations serve him.
[John 4:25-26] The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”
[Mark 15:2] “Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
5.) AS THE SON OF GOD OR MAN
[1 Chronicles 17:13-14] I will be his father, and he will be My son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.”
[Psalm 2:7] The king proclaims the LORD’s decree: “The LORD said to me, ‘You are My Son. Today I have become your Father.
[Isaiah 7:14] Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a Son, and she will call Him ‘Immanuel’ (God with us)
[Daniel 3:25] He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
[Daniel 7:13] “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence.
[Matthew 14:32-33] And when they had climbed back into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God!”
[Luke 9:26] If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.
[Luke 22:70] So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” Jesus answered them, “You say that I am.”
[Mark 2:27-28] Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath”.
6.) AS THE SALVATION OR SAVIOR OF THE WORLD
[Psalm 67:1-2] God be merciful to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us, that Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation (Yeshua) among all nations”
[Isaiah 62:11] The LORD has sent this message to every land: “Tell the people of Israel, ‘Look, your Savior is coming. See, he brings his reward with him as he comes.’”
[John 4:42] Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.”
[1 John 4:14] And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
7.) AS THE PURIFIER OR PERFECTER OF OUR FAITH
[Psalm 37:37] Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
[Jeremiah 33:8] ‘I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned against Me and by which they have transgressed against Me.
[Daniel 12:10] Many will be purified, made spotless, and refined, but the wicked will continue to act wickedly. None of the wicked will understand, but the wise will understand.
[1 John 1:7] But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
[John 5:48] Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
[Hebrews 1:3] The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
[Hebrews 12:2] Looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
8.) AS THE JUDGE OF THE WORLD
[Psalm 8:6] You made him to have dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet
[Matthew 13:40-42] “Just as the weeds are sorted out and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the world. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
[John 5:22] For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,
[Acts 10:42] And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead.
