Whenever non-Muslims ask, “why almost all kidnapping for ransom incidents are done by Islamic groups?”. Muslims would answer, “those Muslims don’t follow the true Islam because Islam is a great religion, it teaches peace”. But is it true that Islam is a religion of peace and does not teach keeping captives for ransom? Its Scriptures speak for themselves;
[Quran 2:177] Yusuf Ali. After this it is ye, the same people, who slay among yourselves, and banish a party of you from their homes; assist (Their enemies) against them, in guilt and rancour; and if they come to you as captives, ye ransom them, though it was not lawful for you to banish them. Then is it only a part of the Book that ye believe in, and do ye reject the rest? but what is the reward for those among you who behave like this but disgrace in this life?- and on the Day of Judgment they shall be consigned to the most grievous penalty. For Allah is not unmindful of what ye do.
[Quran 2:85] Sher Ali. It is not righteousness that you turn your faces to the East or the West, but truly righteous is he who believes in ALLAH and the Last Day and the angels and the Book and the Prophets, and spends his money out of love for HIM, on the kindred and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and those who ask for charity and for ransoming the captives; and observes prayer and pays the Zakat; and those who fulfill their promise when they have made one, and the patient in poverty and afflictions and the steadfast in the time of war; it is these who have proved truthful and it is these who are truly God-Fearing
[Quran 8:67] It is not for a Prophet that he should have prisoners of war (and free them with ransom) until he had made a great slaughter (among his enemies) in the land. You desire the good of this world (i.e. the money of ransom for freeing the captives), but Allah desires (for you) the Hereafter. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
[Quran 47:4] So, when you meet those who disbelieve, smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly. Thereafter either set them free as a favor or let them ransom themselves until the war lays down its burden. If it had been Allah’s Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets you fight), in order to test you, some with others. But those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost
[Ishaq 327/Hisham 484] Allah said, a prophet should slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven from the land. You craved the desires of this world, its goods and ransom captives would bring, but Allah desires killing them to manifest the religion. . . Allah made booty lawful and good. He used it to unity of purpose, so enjoy what you captured.
[Ishaq 313] The Muslims told Abu Safyan to pay them a ransom to free his son Amr. He replied, “Am I to suffer the double loss of my blood and money? After you have killed my son Hanzala, you want me to pay you a ransom to free Amr?”
COMMENT: This Hadith confirms the Koranic verse [47:4], where the group of Muhammad required ransom money from the family of their victims. According to this Hadith, the group of Muhammad mercilessly killed Hanzala (son of Abu Safyan), then shamelessly asked a ransom for the release of Amir (other son of Abu Safyan). This Hadith also confirms that Muhammad was more inclined of wealth rather than spreading the message of God being a prophet. To behead other people and take them as captives for ransom is 100 percent Islamic.
[Sahih al-Bukhari 5373] Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari: The Prophet said, “Give food to the hungry, pay a visit to the sick and release (set free) the one in captivity (by paying his ransom).
[Sunan Abi Dawud 2317] Ibn ‘Abbas said “The verse concerning the payment of ransom stands valid for pregnant and sucking woman.”
[Sunan Abi Dawud 2691] Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet fixed the ransom of the people of pre-Islamic Arabia at four hundred dirhams per head on the day of the battle of Badr.
[Mishkat al-Masabih 3973] ‘Ali reported God’s Messenger as saying that Gabriel came down to him and said to him, “Give them (i.e. your companions) their choice regarding the prisoners at Badr whether they should be killed or ransomed on condition that a like number of them should be killed the following year.” They replied, “We shall accept ransom and have some of us killed.”
[Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3185] . . . This is acted upon according to most of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet and others. It is for the Imam to decide to be generous with whom he wills among the captives, or to kill whom he wills among them, or to ransom whom he wills among them. Some of the people of knowledge preferred killing over ransoming. . . .
So I appeal to our Muslim brothers and sisters to please stop telling lies in order to deceive the non-Muslims. And to those ignorant Muslims I urge you to study your Scriptures first before exalting your religion. Your religion is not great, but rather filled with terrors and immorality. Islam does not promote peace with non-Muslims, but rather commands war against them.
