Scripture portrays sexual activity as intended within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, reflecting God’s creative order and covenantal faithfulness. Sexual immorality—whether adultery, fornication, or lustful acts outside of marriage—is described as a form of rebellion against God, a misuse of the body, and a distortion of the intimacy meant to mirror His holiness and love. Paul writes that the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and therefore sexual sin is not merely a personal issue but a spiritual one, affecting one’s relationship with God. Theologically, sexual immorality is dangerous because it distorts love into self-gratification, undermines trust and commitment, and separates people from the fullness of life God intends. Yet, the Bible also offers grace and restoration, calling those who have fallen into sexual sin to repentance, renewal, and the healing power of God’s forgiveness.

1. [Deuteronomy 22:22] If a man is found lying with a married woman, then both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman; thus you shall purge the evil from Israel.

2. [Leviticus 18:20] You shall not have intercourse with your neighbor’s wife, to be defiled with her.

3. [Ezekiel 18:11] (though the father did not do any of these things), that is, the son even eats [the food set before idols] at the mountain shrines, and defiles his neighbor’s wife,

4. [Matthew 15:19] For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander.

5. [Mark 7:21-22] For from within the hearts of men come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, arrogance, and foolishness.

6. [Romans 1:26-27] That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

7. [Hebrews 13:3-4] Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

8. [1 Corinthians 5:1] It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife.

9. [1 Corinthians 5:11] But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler.

10. [1 Corinthians 6:9] Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,

11. [1 Corinthians 6:13] “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food,” but God will destroy them both. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body

12. [1 Corinthians 6:18] Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.

13. [1 Thessalonians 4:3] For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication

14. [2 Timothy 2:22] Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

15. [Galatians 5:19-21] Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

16. [Ephesians 5:5] For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

17. [Jude 1:16] These men are discontented grumblers, following after their own lusts; their mouths spew arrogance; they flatter others for their own advantage.

18. [Revelation 21:8] But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
