From the sacrifices offered by Abel, Noah, and Abraham in the Old Testament to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ in the New Testament, Scripture consistently demonstrates the importance of sacrifice as an expression of faith, obedience, worship, repentance, and love. Through sacrifices, God’s people acknowledged His holiness, sought forgiveness for sin, and dedicated themselves to His service. The Bible also teaches that true sacrifice extends beyond offerings placed on an altar. God desires a humble heart, sincere obedience, acts of mercy, and lives fully devoted to Him. The sacrificial death of Jesus Christ stands as the greatest example of God’s love for humanity, providing eternal salvation for all who believe in Him. Old Testament books
1. [Genesis 22:2] Take your son,” God said, “your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you
2. [Genesis 22:6-9] Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac. He himself carried the fire and the sacrificial knife, and the two of them walked on together. Then Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” “Here I am, my son,” he replied. “The fire and the wood are here,” said Isaac, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two walked on together. When they arrived at the place God had designated, Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood. He bound his son Isaac and placed him on the altar, atop the wood.
3. [Job 42:7-8] After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, He said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you and your two friends. For you have not spoken about Me accurately, as My servant Job has. So now, take seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. Then My servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken accurately about Me, as My servant Job has.”
4. [Exodus 12:3] Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household.
5. [Exodus 12:5] Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats
6. [Exodus 12:4] And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb
7. [Exodus 20:24] An altar of earth you shall make for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I cause my name to be remembered I will come to you and bless you.
8. [Leviticus 1:10] If his gift for a burnt offering is from the flock, from the sheep or goats, he shall bring a male without blemish

And when anyone offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering from the herd or from the flock, to be accepted it must be perfect; there shall be no blemish in it. Animals blind or disabled or mutilated or having a discharge or an itch or scabs you shall not offer to the Lord or give them to the Lord as a food offering on the altar. You may present a bull or a lamb that has a part too long or too short for a freewill offering, but for a vow offering it cannot be accepted for you.
13. [Leviticus 23:12] And on the day when you wave the sheaf, you shall offer a male lamb a year old without blemish as a burnt offering to the Lord.
14. [Psalm 40:6] In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required
15. [Psalm 50:3-5] He will break the long silence which Heaven has observed. “Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence…He shall call to the heavens above, and to the earth, that He may judge His people. Gather my saints together unto me; those that have a covenant with me by sacrifice.”.

29. [Hebrews 10:8] First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law.
30. [Hebrews 10:10] And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

37. [1 Peter 2:5] You yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
38. [1 John 1:7] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
