“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God the almighty, “Who is, and Who was, and Who is to come“.

A.) INTRODUCTION:

What Is the Trinity?

The word Trinity is derived from two words: tri-, meaning “three,” and unity, meaning “oneness.” It is a doctrine of the Catholic Church that teaches that the one God exists as three distinct Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, united in one Godhead.

The term Person in the Holy Trinity does not refer to three separate individual beings. Rather, it refers to the distinct Persons through whom the one God has revealed Himself to humanity.

Many religious groups and individuals fail to grasp the doctrine of the Holy Trinity as taught by the Catholic Church and revealed in the Holy Scriptures. Others may understand it but deliberately distort its meaning, either to defend their own theological positions or out of fear of losing followers within their respective religious communities. The doctrine of the Trinity can be difficult to understand, especially for those who are unwilling to study the Holy Scriptures carefully.

Islam accuses Catholics and other Christians of practicing polytheism, claiming that belief in the Trinity contradicts the biblical teaching that God is one (Isaiah 45:18). Although the mystery of the Holy Trinity is difficult to comprehend, especially for the ordinary mind, it is undeniable that this mystery is revealed throughout the Holy Scriptures. The Scriptures teach that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are distinct yet inseparably related to one another. The Father is God (Psalm 68:5; Isaiah 64:8; 1 Corinthians 8:6), the Son is God (Psalm 2:11–12; John 1:1–18; Hebrews 1:8–9), and the Holy Spirit is also God (Acts 5:3–4; Hebrews 3:7–11). Yet they are one in divine nature (Deuteronomy 6:4).

This doctrine of the triune God has given rise to various interpretations among different groups and individuals and has become one of the major causes of divisions among those who profess Christianity. Some Christian denominations teach that the Father and the Son are separate in nature, resulting in the belief in two Gods. Such a teaching contradicts God’s declaration that He is one. Others teach that Jesus is merely a man and therefore not God. It appears that the founders of these beliefs either failed to understand the teachings of the Holy Scriptures or deliberately twisted them to support their own doctrines or advance their personal interests.

B.) TRINITY REVELATION IN THE BIBLE:

Although the word “Trinity” does not explicitly appear anywhere in the Bible, the doctrine itself is firmly rooted in the Holy Scriptures. Throughout both the Old and New Testaments, numerous passages reveal that the one true God exists as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. While the term Trinity was later adopted by the Church to describe this divine mystery, the biblical foundation for the doctrine has always been present. The following passages reveal the three divine Persons of the one God. Let us carefully examine and interpret each of them in light of the Holy Scriptures.

1. [Isaiah 9:6] For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

ANALYSIS: Isaiah 7:14 is another verse of the book of Isaiah that also predicts the birth of a Son. It says: 

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel.  

‘Emmanuel’ is a Hebrew word which means “God with us”. These prophesies by Isaiah were fulfilled in Jesus about 700 years later. The angel said to Mary: 

“Do not be afraid Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus” (Luke 1:30-34). 

‘Jesus’ is a transliteration derived from the word ‘Iesous’, a Greek transliteration for Hebrew word ‘Yeshua’ which means “God saves” or “Salvation”. Isaiah 9:6 describes the Son (Jesus) as the Counselor, Mighty God, and the Everlasting Father. In John 15:26, Jesus says that this Counselor is also the Spirit of Truth. He says: 

“When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, He will testify about me”. 

Isaiah 9:6 is a resounding evidence that God the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit are one being; this verse declares Trinity.

2. [Isaiah 48:16] “I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there I am; and now the Sovereign Lord has sent Me with his Spirit“.

ANALYSIS: The speaker of this verse claimed that He already existed from the beginning, so it means He is God. And then He proceeded, “. . . and now the Sovereign Lord has sent Me with his Spirit“. So the speaker God is sent by Sovereign Lord with His Spirit. Notice that there are three persons mentioned in this verse; the speaker God who is sent, the Sovereign Lord who is the sender, and the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord. The sender Lord is the source (Father) of the Spirit, and the messenger God is the emanated Spirit (Son) who came to Earth and dwelt in a human body (John 14:10). The speaker God could simply just say, “and now the Sovereign Lord has sent Me“, but He mentioned about Spirit who accompanies Him.

Therefore, God emphasizes the interrelation among the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. Isaiah 48:16 portrays Trinity.

3. [John 14:6] Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.“ 

ANALYSIS: Way signifies Salvation. Since mankind was cut-off from God’s grace due to sin, God provided a bridge for us to cross to His Holy abode. This bridge or way is Jesus, that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. Truth signifies the Spirit of Truth who will attest Jesus’ testimony.  He will prove to mankind that what Jesus promised and warned are true. Life signifies the Father God who is the fountain of life (Psalm 36:9). The Lord Jesus demonstrated the Trinity.

4. [John 15:26] Jesus says, “But when the Counselor comes whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of Truth who goes out from the Father, He will testify about me”. 

ANALYSIS: Notice that in this verse Jesus is the one who will send the Counselor, and this Counselor is the Spirit of Truth who goes out from the Father. Who is this Counselor (Spirit of Truth) that Jesus will send from the Father? It is He who will testify about Jesus. But referring to John 8:18, Jesus Himself will testify about Himself. For He says:

“I am the one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me bear witness of me”. 

Therefore, the mentioned Spirit of Truth is Jesus Himself. The Father spirit is the source of the spirit of the Son and the Spirit of Truth, so they are one nature. In this verse, Jesus demonstrates the Holy Trinity.

5. [John 14:15-17] If you love me, you will obey what I command. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to help you and be with you forever, that is the Spirit of truth. 

ANALYSIS: Jesus tells that He will ask the Father another Counselor to be with His people forever. Why another Counselor? Because Jesus himself is the Counselor whom was sent by the Father and dwelt among the people. After Him, will follow another Counselor who is the Spirit of Truth. But referring back to John 8:18, we are told that this Spirit of Truth is also Jesus Himself who will return on the Last Day. And in (Isaiah 9:6), we know that the Counselor is also the Everlasting Father.

Therefore, the Father, Counselor (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit (Spirit of Truth) are one being. Jesus demonstrates the Holy Trinity.

6. [Matthew 28:19] “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. 

ANALYSIS: Prior to His ascension into heaven, Jesus commanded His disciples to baptize His followers in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. This baptismal formula strongly signifies the interrelationship among the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Why are all three named? They represent the three ways in which God reveals Himself to humanity throughout the history of salvation: God as the Father in the work of creation; God as the Son, Jesus Christ, in the work of salvation; and God as the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, in His continuing work among believers and in the fulfillment of God’s promises concerning the resurrection.

Thus, Jesus emphasized the significance of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

7. [1 John 5:7] For there are three that bear witness in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one. 

ANALYSIS: The Word is also Jesus according to John 1:14. It says:

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth”. 

So, verse ‘1 John 5:7′ clearly emphasizes the Holy Trinity.

8. [1 John 5:6-8] This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the Water and the Blood; and the three are in agreement. 

ANALYSIS: ” . . . For there are three that testify . . . ” Notice that the writer John specifies about the three testifiers namely; the Spirit, the Water, and the Blood.

The Spirit signifies the Spirit of Truth, who is the testifier of the truth about Jesus [John 15:26]. The Water signifies the fountain of living water, the source of life (Jeremiah 2:13 & Psalm 36:8-9). The Father God who is the testifier of Jesus (John 12:18). And the Blood which symbolizes the sacrificial Lamb who is Jesus, and testifier of the Father (John 5:36).

So these three persons of God are in agreement or one in nature.

9. [2 Corinthians 13:14] The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 

ANALYSIS: The Son, an emanated Spirit who took on human flesh, proceeded forth from God (John 8:42), the source, or Father Spirit. Likewise, the Holy Spirit, who is also an emanated Spirit, proceeds from God (John 15:26), the source, or Father Spirit. Therefore, these three Persons share one divine nature.

10. [Revelation 1:8] “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God the almighty, “Who is, and Who was, and Who is to come“.

ANALYSIS: In this verse, the Lord Jesus declares that He is the Alpha (the First) and the Omega (the Last), equating His claim with that of God the Father in Isaiah 41:4. He is not saying that His reign has a beginning and an end, for He is eternal. Rather, He is referring to His sovereignty over all things, from the beginning of creation to the Last Day.

“Who is,“, describing Himself as the present God, the Son, who appeared to men in the form of Jesus on the Salvation period; the center of the three stages of God’s appearance to men.

“Who was“, describing Himself as the God in the Creation period who is the Father God, the first stage of God’s appearance to men.

“Who is to come“, describing Himself as the coming God on the ‘Resurrection’ period, this is the Spirit of Truth, who will come to judge the living and the dead, to punish the sinners, and bring His devoted followers to Heaven. This is the last stage of God’s appearance to mankind on Earth.

C.) TRINITY ANALIYSIS:

The truth is that there is only one God. By nature, He is Spirit (John 4:24), yet He is not limited by His spiritual nature and can manifest Himself in different ways according to His divine will. He created the heavens, the earth, and every living creature, but He showed special favor to humanity because He created man in His own image (Genesis 1:26). Human beings are unique among all of God’s earthly creations. They possess intelligence, reason, and free will. It was because of these gifts that they disobeyed God’s command and succumbed to Satan’s temptation, desiring to become like God by determining good and evil for themselves (Genesis 3:4–6). Even today, many skeptics continue to question and challenge God’s sovereignty over the universe.

Why Did God Come into the World Through Human Birth?

When Adam and Eve transgressed God’s command and fell from His grace (Genesis 3:1), they became separated from God because of their sin. They were condemned to death as the consequence of disobedience (Genesis 2:16–17). Because of the first sin, humanity became mortal and subject to death. Sin separated mankind from God (Isaiah 59:2).

Heaven is holy, and impure creation has no place in the presence of God. God is holy, and He does not dwell in fellowship with impurity (Leviticus 11:44; Deuteronomy 23:14). Therefore, man cannot enter heaven by his own merit because of his sinful nature.

God is righteous in His judgment against the sins of the world, and Scripture describes Him as seeking someone who could stand in the breach and intercede on behalf of the people. Yet He found no one (Ezekiel 22:30). Humanity had become deeply corrupted by sin, and there was no one who was completely righteous (Micah 7:2).

Nevertheless, because God so loved the world (John 3:16), and because He alone can bring forth what is pure from what is impure (Job 14:4), He sent forth His Spirit to accomplish the work of redemption and to destroy the works of the devil through His death (Isaiah 48:16; 1 John 3:8; Hebrews 2:14).

This emanated Spirit is described as the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature (Hebrews 1:3). The Sender is called the Father, while the One sent is called the Son (Isaiah 9:6). The Son descended to earth and became flesh through human birth. Therefore, He is called Immanuel, Jesus, and the Son of God and Son of Man (Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:35; Matthew 26:24).

Jesus’ mission was to save the world from condemnation by purifying it through His pure nature; thus, He is called “Jesus” or “Savior” (Titus 2:13; Isaiah 62:11).

He is the only sinless man on earth, making Him qualified to stand as a Mediator between God and mankind; thus, He is called the “Mediator” or “Counselor” (Isaiah 9:6). He demonstrated His great love for mankind by giving His life for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2). His sacrifice was like that of a sacrificial lamb offered to atone for the transgressions of humanity against God; thus, He is called the “Lamb of God.”

Through the saving blood of Jesus, mankind can regain eternal life and become qualified to enter the kingdom of heaven. Following Jesus’ teachings is the way by which mankind can reach heaven; thus, He is also called the “Way” (John 14:6).

The Savior—the Spirit sent by God—needed to become a pure human being because death entered the world through a man; therefore, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man (1 Corinthians 15:21).

After completing His saving mission on earth, Jesus ascended into heaven and was reunited with the source Spirit, God the Father (Mark 16:19). He promised to return on the Last Day to defeat the ancient Serpent and his angels (Revelation 12:9), to judge the unrepentant (Revelation 20:15), and to bring His faithful followers into His holy dwelling place, heaven (John 14:1–3).

The meaning of “Son of God”

Biologically, Jesus could not be called the “Son of God” in the ordinary human sense because He was not conceived through sexual intercourse or formed in the womb through the union of human sperm and an egg. In another sense, however, “father” can refer to a source or origin. For example, Satan is called the “father of lies” (John 8:44).

Likewise, the word “son” can sometimes refer to someone or something that proceeds from, originates from, or is associated with a particular source. For example, expressions such as “son of California” can refer to someone who originates from or belongs to a particular region.

In John 15:26, Jesus says that the Spirit of Truth proceeds from the Father. Thus, the Spirit is described as proceeding from God the Father. According to Luke 1:35, this Holy Spirit came upon Mary, and the power of the Most High overshadowed her; therefore, the child who was born was called the “Son of God.” Jesus is also called the “Son of Man,” a title associated with the heavenly figure described in Daniel 7:13 and applied to Jesus in the New Testament (Matthew 16:27).

How come a spirit goes out from a Spirit? 

Before I answer this question, I would like to share a short story. When I was a teenager, I met a faith healer whose nickname was “Migo.” He told me that he had a spirit companion. One day, shortly after his marriage, he experienced a supernatural event. He told me that while he was talking with his parent-in-law inside their house, the spirit came and took him outside. To his amazement, while he was conversing with the spirit outside, he could still see his own body inside the house, continuing to talk with his parent-in-law.

When I was young, I considered such an event impossible. It was not until I reached my early thirties that my perspective began to change. The world of spirits is different from the human world. There are things that spirits can supposedly do that humans cannot, such as multiplying themselves or appearing in multiple places at the same time.

In my mid-twenties, I became somewhat curious about spiritual matters and began reading the Bible occasionally. Although I was born a Catholic, I seldom attended Mass or went to church. I began to question the doctrine of the Trinity and the Catholic practice of using sacred images because these were among the most common objections raised by many Christian denominations. At the time, their arguments seemed to be supported by biblical teachings. However, I eventually discovered that the doctrines and practices taught by the Catholic Church are also supported by the Bible.

I often watched Eli Soriano’s Bible Exposition on television. I admired him for his seemingly extensive knowledge of the Bible. He could answer a listener’s question immediately by quoting relevant passages of Scripture, as though he had memorized the entire Bible. At that time, his argument that the Father and the Son are distinct beings was convincing to me.

Nevertheless, I still felt that there had to be an explanation for those accusations because the Catholic Church is the original Christian Church founded by Christ Himself. Therefore, I found it difficult to believe that its fundamental teachings could be erroneous. Thanks to the internet age, we can now search the Scriptures with ease and quickly locate the passages we wish to read or study. Through careful study of the Bible, I eventually came to understand the doctrine of the Holy Trinity much more clearly.

The main problem why people could not comprehend the Trinity in the Bible is because they regard the capability of God as of human, remember that God is the greatest supernatural being, His capability is unlimited, hence all things are possible to Him (Matthew 19:26). He is not human that depends only on his limited resources. The claim of ‘Migo’ is very possible because a spirit has power. We can become many persons by a supernatural power. We are still in physical world hence we don’t know about spiritual characteristic but the Bible gives us several verses relating spirits and their capabilities for us to formulate ideas about them. The following are verses about spirits and their capabilities, let us read and interpret each of them;

1. [Numbers 12:25-26] Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took some of the power of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied—but did not do so again. However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp. 

ANALYSIS: ” . . . He took some of the power of the Spirit . . “. God took some of the power of His Spirit and put it on seventy elders so that they prophesied including Eldad and Medad who were distant from the seventy elders. Now, if God could take out some power of His Spirit and put it upon numerous bodies in order to prophesy, how much more on one body? Therefore, it is very possible for God to take an amount of His powerful Spirit and sent it to the world to become a man. Jesus claimed that the Spirit of God is upon Him (Luke 4:18), and even it dwells in Him (John 14:10). So, the spirit in jesus is the exact representation of God’s being (Hebrews 1:3). 

Actually, a spirit could transform into a human body at any time, and vice versa. God appeared to Abraham as three men (Genesis 18:1–2); Jacob wrestled with God in the form of an ordinary man (Genesis 32:24–30); and Jesus’ body became radiant with light during His Transfiguration (Matthew 17:2). This indicates that His body could transform into light or spirit, and vice versa. After His resurrection, Jesus passed through a locked door (John 20:19) and later ascended into heaven, which means that He was in His human body when those events took place. In light of these events, a human’s glorified body can pass through solid objects and ascend into heaven by the power of God. Likewise, God can cause a physical body to disappear and reappear elsewhere, as illustrated in the account of Philip (Acts 8:39–40).

2. [Revelation 4:5] From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings, and peals of thunder. Before the throne burned seven torches of fire. These are the seven Spirits of God.

ANALYSIS: “These are the seven Spirits of God”. This verse is very evident that God could divide His Spirit into many. Therefore, no doubt that God could emanate another Spirit from His powerful Spirit and send to the world to become our purifier. God could fold His eyes into many, the same way, He could fold His Spirit into many because nothing is impossible to Him (Luke 1:37 & Job 42:2). These Spirits could detach from each other, and even talk to each other. God has the power to fold Himself into many, and reversely converge them into one being, that’s why He could sometimes be singular or plural as described in the Bible. “Revelation 4:5” solidifies the belief on Trinity.

This verse clearly indicates that God can manifest His Spirit in manifold ways. Therefore, there is no reason to deny that God can emanate His Spirit and send Him into the world to carry out His divine work, including the work of purification.

God’s power is unlimited; nothing is impossible for Him (Luke 1:37; Job 42:2). Just as Scripture describes the Spirit of God in different manifestations, it also presents the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as distinct in their operations while remaining united in the divine nature.

These distinctions do not imply that God is divided into separate beings. Rather, they demonstrate the manifold ways in which God acts and reveals Himself. The biblical descriptions of God as both singular and plural should therefore be understood in light of His unity and the distinctions revealed within the Godhead.

Thus, Revelation 4:5 provides an important passage for understanding the multifaceted activity of God’s Spirit and can be considered alongside other biblical passages in developing the doctrine of the Trinity.

D.) CONCLUSION:

I wonder why some people who have read the Bible from beginning to end remain skeptical about the Holy Trinity, even though the Bible contains many passages that strongly emphasize the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is one Being, yet He has the ability to manifest His Spirit in countless ways.

Consider water: it has the same basic nature whether it is dispersed throughout different parts of the earth or gathered from many places into one body. Likewise, God can pour out His Spirit upon all people (Joel 2:28). In other words, He can distribute His Spirit to countless people without diminishing His divine nature. Scripture also speaks of the seven Spirits of God (Revelation 4:5), demonstrating the manifold operation of God’s Spirit.

Similarly, electricity is one form of energy, yet it can be distributed to billions of households simultaneously. In the same way, God can make His presence known to countless people in different places at the same time. He is not limited by space or by the number of people to whom He can reveal Himself. Jesus Himself appeared to more than 500 believers at one time (1 Corinthians 15:3–6). Therefore, the ability of God to reveal Himself to many people simultaneously should not be considered impossible. Scripture likewise teaches that God works in all people (1 Corinthians 12:6).

Let us not limit the power of God by imposing human limitations upon Him.

Encouragement and Warning

For those who are unfamiliar with the Holy Scriptures—the Tanakh and the New Testament—I encourage you to read them for yourselves. Numerous translations are readily available on the internet today. You waste your own intellectual abilities if you simply depend on the rhetoric of religious leaders for your knowledge of God. Remember that your spiritual life and eternal destiny are at stake. Do you not desire eternal life in heaven? Is there anything more valuable than attaining eternal life? Heaven and earth will pass away, but the Word of God will never pass away (Mark 13:31 & Luke 21:33).

Therefore, diligently seek to know God through His Word, and do not entrust your salvation entirely to religious leaders. If they are blind to the truth, those who blindly follow them may also be led astray. You can easily be deceived by false teachings if you remain ignorant of the Holy Scriptures. The Bible warns us:

“false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies” (2 Peter 2:1-3).

This means that the original Church would deal false prophets and heresies. And these false prophets and teachers are now among us who have misled billions of people.

And for those people who have read the whole Scripture but still denying Jesus as God, you help Satan spreading his lies:

“who is a liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the anti-Christ—denying the Father and the Son” (1 John 2:22). 

You let the father of lies guide your heart in exchange of earthly pleasures, so prepare yourselves for the coming fiery lake:

“But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).
