How did the Father and the Son glorify or exalt one another? The Son, Jesus Christ, glorified the Father by faithfully declaring to the people that the Father had sent Him into the world to accomplish His will. Jesus consistently directed people’s attention to the Father rather than to Himself alone. He also said, “the Father is greater than I” (John 14:28), and on many occasions He prayed to the Father in the presence of others, demonstrating His reverence, trust, and submission to the Father. Through His words, His deeds, and His perfect obedience to God’s will, Jesus glorified the Father on earth.
On the other hand, the Father also glorified the Son by bestowing upon Him honor, authority, and glory. When Jesus was baptized, a voice from heaven declared, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Mark 1:11). Many people witnessed this event and heard the voice from heaven. Furthermore, the Father glorified the Son by granting Him a position of honor above all creation and by referring to Him as God in Scripture, as seen in Psalm 45:6–7 and Hebrews 1:8–9. Thus, the Father and the Son glorified one another, revealing their close relationship, unity of purpose, and the honor they bestowed upon each other.
