ANSWER: God is spirit (John 4:24), and He could scatter His spirit (Joel 2:28). When Adam and Eve fell to the trap of Satan, they lost their eternal lives since the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). The glory that clothed their bodies had gone, thus they suffered body aging and deterioration, then died. And since we are their descendants, we inherited their condition, we also suffer body deterioration and death. But because God so loved His people, He set up a plan, He sent forth His word or spirit to become His Son via a decree (Psalm 2:7). The Son of God was manifested that He might destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). The Word came down from Heaven and entered the world through a human birth (John 6:38, John 1:14, & Matthew 1:16). His mission on Earth is to become a natural man and obey the law perfectly (Revelation 21:27). The goal was for mankind to have a perfect or sinless man in order to regain their eternal lives. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man (1 Corinthians 15:21). Only sinless or holy man can possess eternal life. Why Jesus prayed? Because that’s one of the things that a man should do under the law _to pray. If Jesus did not pray and instead used his divinity, he could not be a sinless man since he violated the law. Jesus lived his life and faced his fate using his humanity, he did not stepped back even death on the cross. Jesus reasoned out why he prayed, it’s for the people to observe so that they would believe the Father who sent him (John 11:41-42). In other words, Jesus exalted the Father as what the law requires _to glorify God (Psalm 50:15).
